Recipe of the Week: Orange Julius Protein Shake

I used to love Orange Julius shakes as a kid, so I decided to recreate my favorite with healthy whole-food ingredients. This recipe is the result, which is from my cookbook The Shredded Chef, is the result and it’s really good.

It’s perfect as a pre-or post-workout meal, or even as a healthy dessert. Enjoy!

Protein Per Serving

51 grams

Carbohydrates Per Serving

50 grams

Fat Per Serving

3 grams



2 scoops vanilla whey protein powder

1 cup orange juice

3/4 cup crushed ice or 4 – 6 ice cubes

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/2 medium banana

3 strawberries, frozen

2 packets (2 grams) of stevia or other sugar alternative


Place all ingredients in blender and blend on medium speed until desired consistency.

    This was the most disgusting drink that I have ever had. Way too much protein powder.

    I am diabetic and love doing protein shakes for breakfast. I cannot have bananas, so I tried making it without the banana. But the consistency seemed not quite right. Any suggestions on what I can add that will help smooth out the consistency?
