What has happened so far on the program?

I’m 30 years old and I’ve lost 35 pounds in 6 months! I have noticed my energy levels have increased, my overall mood has changed for the better, I don’t fight unhealthy cravings the way I used to—overall I just feel so much better.

When I first started I was benching the bar (45lbs), now I am benching around 85lbs.  I first squatted about 65lbs and now am squatting 125.  Deadlifts I started at 50lbs and am now at 95lbs.  I started at 60lbs on the leg press and can now do about 300lbs!

I’m just starting to do a few bodyweight pull ups and dips, which is huge for me!  I tend to be stronger in my lower body and weaker in my upper body so I’m really trying to focus on building upper body strength the over next 6 months.

What, if anything, almost kept you from buying the book or starting the program?

Absolutely nothing—I was sick of spending hours in the gym doing CARDIO CARDIO CARDIO and not getting results.  It worked okay for me when I was younger, but after having several children along with getting older, it just wasn’t working and I felt “stuck” at a certain number on the scale.

What do you like most about the program?

I like that it is science based—no gimmicks.  It is hard work to keep track and plan out your meals—that’s the hardest part for me. I have the gym part nailed down and have literally not missed a single workout in 6 months.

Eating the correct macros is a struggle, but if I plan ahead it is totally doable.  I use a lot of Mike’s recipes from his blog and cookbooks—that helps so much.  I really appreciate the self discipline this program has taught me.

How does this program compare with others you’ve tried?

I’ve never really tried any other programs.  In the past I would just do cycling or run or the elliptical—I never lifted weights before.  I relied mainly on counting calories and cardio to stay at my ideal weight.

This program is so much more than counting calories.  It is truly a lifestyle and completely maintainable for life.  I’m not quite at the maintenance stage yet, but I know it will be even more flexible once I get to that point.  I have so much more to learn and new goals to set, but I’m genuinely enjoying the process.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Mainly that it is like Mike says in the book—it’s not easy.  If it was, everyone would do it and everyone would have a perfect body.  This is a program for people who are serious about having “muscle for life.”  You are building the body that you want for the rest of your life and it takes time, consistency, and patience.

Enjoy the process and watching your body change.  It’s an amazing thing and very empowering.  I’ve managed to do this program faithfully with three children under the age of four—one who is 7 months old and exclusively breastfed.  If I can do it under those circumstances, anyone can do it!
