How Much Can You Really Trust Personal Trainers and Nutritionists?

I know this might sound COMPLETELY arrogant but after speaking and working with thousands of people over the years, I’m thoroughly convinced of the following:

Many personal trainers and nutritionists have their hearts in the right place but, unfortunately, don’t know what the hell they’re doing.

Low-carb starvation dieting is rampant. Weightlifting is rarely programmed correctly. "Clean eating" is WORSHIPPED while diet fundamentals like energy and macronutrient balance are completely ignored. Hours and hours of cardio are ordered as MANDATORY for getting lean.

The problems go on and on.

You can spot these bad trainers and coaches pretty easily: their clients look exactly the same month after month.

(They themselves also rarely even qualify as "fit" let alone ripped, which isn’t a good sign.)

You see, the truth is it doesn’t take much to get your personal trainer or nutritionist certifications.

You do a CPR class and some online studying, which teaches you just about nothing of real practical value. Then you take a couple tests that are basically impossible to fail and voila...you can now hang your shingle up as a “professional” without ever having to prove you can actually get results.

Another MAJOR problem with how many trainers and nutritionists operate boils down to an underlying conflict of interests.

Your and their goals are often very different.

You want a trainer to teach you how to get and stay fit but he or she wants as many paying clients as possible, and the easiest way to achieve that is to keep existing clients for as long as possible.

I know that might sound cynical, and I really don’t think the majority of trainers mean any harm, but it’s just a matter of economic incentives.

Now, my point here isn’t that I’m so righteous and clever and everyone else is criminal scum.

Hands-On Diet and Training Coaching for LESS THAN HALF of What You Would Normally Pay

You won’t have to record what you eat every meal--just that you stuck to the plan or deviated from it, and if you deviated, what you ate that was “off plan” and why.

For your workouts, you will input what you do every day in the gym in your workout sheets (sets, reps, rest times, and any notes you want to share with your coach). Most clients use their phones for this as you can access all Google Sheets via its mobile site or app.

3. Your coach will review your diet and training sheets every day.

Here’s where the accountability comes into play.

In this daily review, your coach will review your compliance, progress, and notes to ensure everything is going well.

If you left anything in your notes that needs addressing or if he or she has any questions or sees anything to modify or address, they’ll reach out immediately before it becomes a problem.

Your weekly progress call with your coach will be for reviewing progress, discussing challenges, and sharing advice.

Every week you and your coach will discuss how you’re doing. Your coach will help you with any questions or concerns you might have and share any recommendations or modifications that he or she would like to make to your diet or training programs.

Your first week’s call will also include an exercise form review.

For this you will record a series of videos of you working out and send them to your coach to review. Then, on the first weekly call, your coach will go over each with you and make any necessary corrections.
