Awesome podcast! Was wondering about the whole cheat meal thing since I’ve been cutting. This helps a ton! Thanks, Mike!

    • Michael Matthews

Thanks! Glad you liked it. 🙂

  • Nathan Gartner

I love your podcasts! I like when you add in the non fitness stuff too. Can’t wait for the new book, gonna buy 3 copies.

    • Michael Matthews

Thanks Nathan! I really appreciate it. 🙂

Another solid podcast. Great nutrition points. A cheat meal doesn’t have to get in the way of your progress. Who knows.. depending on the vairables, if done right, sometimes it might even help a bit just to make your metabolism work a little bit harder.

And lol @ the superhuman instagram posters. “You’d think they just defeated an army in hand to hand combat.” So true. Ppl posting selfies every day along with novels to go with.

Thanks brother. Yes that’s true–the spike in leptin can actually help kickstart weight loss.

      Lol yeah it’s pretty funny.

Super podcast! I red your book and am only in the 3rd week of following your plan. Anyway – very true words about what things in life matter more or at least as much as fitness. – I think its important to make such personal/subjective statements in order to lead and guide people that just get into this scene. thumbs up!

    • Michael Matthews

Thanks man! I appreciate the kind words and support. 🙂

Hey, I just downloaded your new e-book, shredded for summer. And you said in the book that I should use the Katch McArdle formula. According to the calculator, my BMR is 2,033.20. You said that I should multiply it with some numbers, I did with 1.2. And I got 2,4396 (I’m not sure if it’s correct or not, the commas and decimals confused me a bit since we use something else here in Europe)
But, what I’m slightly confused is that, the number that I’m getting, is that supposed to the calories I have to eat in order to maintain my weight?

Hi Mike, useful info! How normal is it to weight more the day next to your cheat meal?

    • Michael Matthews

Thanks! Very normal. You almost always hold more water.

I had to laugh at the super human comment. My gym buddy and I always roll our eyes at the weirdos in the weight room that are grunting, yelling, and dropping weights. I am so tempted to stop my workout and say, “you’re kidding, right?”

Thanks for the info on the cheat meals, unfortunately when I want to cheat all I want are fatty meats, 3 steaks…..mmmmmm ( a byproduct of previous low-carb dieting). But I guess I just save my fats and protein for that meal. Can’t wait to catch up on your other podcasts!!

    • Michael Matthews

      Hahah oh no, they’re srsbizness.

Let’s face it: fat is delicious. If you wanted to go that route then I would just reduce carbs for the day. The idea is to not end the day in a massive calorie surplus with a ton of those cals coming from fat. 🙂

      Thanks!! 🙂
